Shop Photos
Shop Photos — simple guide for shop owners
This explains the All Shop Photos page in plain, easy language — what each control does, why photos matter for your business, and exactly what you should do to get more customers.
What this page is
A single place to view, add, manage and control all photos for your shop: storefront, interior, products, staff, menus, receipts, certificates, etc. These photos appear on your public shop page when you choose to display them.
Why photos matter (short)
Build trust: clear storefront & product photos make customers more likely to visit.
Improve clicks: listings with good photos get more clicks in search.
Show products clearly: photos answer purchase questions and reduce returns.
Boost conversions: good images lead to more calls, directions, and website visits.
What you see on the page (plain)
Header & Add Photo button — quickly add new pictures.
Filters — search photos by caption, choose sort column and order (caption / created date / primary).
Photo table — thumbnail, caption, is_primary flag, toggle to show/hide on shop, and action buttons (View, Edit, Delete).
Pagination — choose how many to show per page and move between pages.
Tooltips & tips — small help text and quick hints.
Controls explained (what they do and why)
Add Photo — upload new images (use this for new products, updated storefront looks, menu images).
Caption — short text describing the photo (e.g., “Front entrance”, “Red dress - SKU 123”). Helpful for search and organization.
Primary — marks the main photo for the shop or product. Only one primary photo shows as the main thumbnail in some places.
Display on Shop toggle — ON = visible to public; OFF = hidden (use this to hide old or low-quality photos without deleting).
View — opens full-size photo and metadata. Use to confirm image quality.
Edit — change caption, switch primary, or replace the photo.
Delete — permanently remove the photo (confirmation asked).
Image requirements & best practices
Format: JPG or PNG.
Suggested size: upload high-quality images but keep file size reasonable (e.g., 800–2000px on the long edge). For logos/avatars aim for square like 100×100 px.
File size: keep under ~1–2 MB ideally (site may enforce limits).
Orientation: crop to center the product or storefront; use landscape for interiors and portrait for product closeups depending on layout.
Filename & caption: include product name or SKU in caption/filename to help internal search and SEO (e.g.,
red-dress-sku123.jpgand caption “Red Dress - SKU123”).
Photo types you should upload (priority list)
Front / storefront photo (clear, daytime)
Interior / shop floor picture
3–5 best-selling product photos (clear close-ups)
Staff or service-in-action picture (if appropriate)
Menu / price list or certificates/licenses (if relevant)
Any seasonal displays or promotions
Quick actions (what to do now — 10–20 minutes)
Add 3 clear photos: storefront, best product, interior.
Mark the best one as Primary.
Turn Display on Shop = ON for the top 5 photos.
Add short, useful captions (include product name or short descriptive phrase).
Use filters to find and hide old or irrelevant photos (toggle Display OFF).
SEO & discovery tips
Use captions with short keywords: include product name + city (e.g., “Handmade soap — Pune”).
Give products multiple views (front/back/detail) — helps customers and search indexing.
Delete blurry or irrelevant photos — they reduce perceived quality.
Common mistakes & fixes
Blurry photos — replace immediately (Edit → replace).
Wrong aspect/cropped subject — re-crop or re-upload with correct framing.
Photo not visible on shop — check Display on Shop toggle is ON.
Multiple primaries — only one primary should be used where the frontend expects a single thumb. Use Edit to change.
Deleted by mistake — if there’s no undo, re-upload the image.
How to use filters & sorting efficiently
Filter by caption to find product photos quickly.
Sort by created_at desc to see newest uploads.
Use per page to show more photos when organizing large catalogs.
Deleting vs Hiding
Hide (Display OFF): safe if you want to remove from public view but keep for records or later use.
Delete: removes permanently — only use when sure.
Security & privacy notes
Don’t upload images with identifiable customer personal data unless you have consent.
For staff photos, get permission from employees before publishing.
Troubleshooting quick list
Toggle failed (AJAX error): page uses a secure token (CSRF). If the toggle fails, refresh page and try again.
Upload fails or times out: try a smaller file or better network connection.
Thumbnail not updating after replace: clear browser cache or wait a few minutes for CDN/cache to update.
